Carl Zeiss 18x50 "Delfortmo"

Carl Zeiss 18x50 "Delfortmo"

This Carl Zeiss Jena model "Delfortmo" was made between 1919 and 1930. It has a porro II prism system (s. photo 4). So the construction shows the typical tin-shaped body and a longer objective tube than with the porro I prism modell.

As the serial number is 1128261, the year of production must be 1920 or '21. The leather case of the 18x50 monocular also has the "Carl Zeiss Jena" within the lens logo on it. Another specimen with serial number1487726 dating from 1929 is also marked "GErmany" which lets me assume this is an export model. The emaning of a "B" after the serial number is still unknown. One model with serial number 1359227 also has a strap lug at the objective tube ring before the sun-shade.

There is a leather covered ray shade at the objective tube's end.

Thew 18x50 weighs 500g (with leather strap). It is 295mm long – with ray shade 320mm – and the objective tube broadens from 35mm to 60mm. The prism body also has a diameter of 60mm, and a height of 32mm.
