"Ledermantel" Monokular 8x20Dieses Porro-1-Monokular hat eine außergewöhnliches Ledergehäuse, das sich um den inneren Prismenstuhl schließt und anhand zweier Riemen mit Druckknöpfen zusammengehalten wird. An der Seite wurde ins Leder eine Aussparung geschnitten, die im Inneren ein Schraubloch an einer Verbindungsstrebe freigibt. Möglicherweise sollte dies die befestigung eines Handgriffs ermöglichen. Das Leder hat eine Rauten förmige Musterung. Passgenau wie diese Ummantelung wurde für das Monokular auch ein Weichlederfuteral angefertigt.Welchen Ursprung das Monokular hat bleibt offen. Es könnte ein Prototyp, ein rechter Teil eines unvollendeten oder bechädigten binokularen Glases oder ein firmeninternes Demonstratiosnobjekt sein. Der Verkäufer gab an, dass es aus Händen einen ehemaligen Leitz-Mitarbeiters stamme. Allerdings kann dies nicht mit Sicherheit belegen, dass es ein Leitz-Produkt ist. Das Okular mit Augenmuschel und Dioptrieskala sowie die Länge und Ausmaße des Monokulars entsprechen dem Carl Zeiss 8fach, allerdings hat dies eine andere innere Prismenstuhlkonstruktion. Auch die Objektivlinse und zwei Bohrungen an einer gebogenen Strebe des "Mantelglas"-Monokulars passen zum Carl Zeiss 8fach. Mit der Kosntruktion des binokularen Görz "Mantelglases" ist es nicht identisch. Geht man davon aus, dass die Lederummantelung somit auch die Druckknöpfe (s. Fotos)zur gleichen Zeit gefertigt wurden, ist es realtiv sicher, dass dies ein sehr altes Exemplar (vermutlich vor dem 1. Weltkrieg) ist. Der Druckknopf der Ledertsche ist innen mit den verschnörkelten Buchstaben "WW" gekennzeichnet, die beiden Riemendruckknöpfe des Ledergehäuses haben außen eine Art Rosette und innen die Initialien "C.S." eingeprägt; sie könnten ggf. auf den Ursprung hinweisen. |
Leather Mamtle Monocular 8x20This porro 1 monocular has an extraordinary leather housing which folds around the prism chair inside. The leather mantle is held together by two straps with press studs. There is a cut-out in the leather so you can see or reach a screw hole inside at one of the prism chair stays. This was probably meant to attach a handle. The leather has a diamond shaped pattern. Just as custom-fit as the housing there is a soft leather case.The origin and maker of this monocular is uncertain: it might be a prototype, a righhand-side of unfinished or broken binocular, or a in-house demonstration object. The seller said it came from an ex-Leitz staff. But you cannot be sure about being a Leitz make because of that. The ocular with its eyecup and dioptre scale as well as the glass'S length and dimensions come close to the Carl Zeiss 8fach – still the prism chair inside is different. Again, also the the objective lens and two screw holes at another rounded stay of the "Mantle Glass"-monocular fit to the Carl Zeiss 8fach. This monocular is not of identical design to the Görz "Mantelglass" binocular. Taking for granted that that the leather housing and hence the press tuds were made at the same time as the optics, it is quite certain that here we have a rather old piece, probably before WWI. The press stud of the leather case is stamped inside with squiggly letters "WW". The twoi studs of the straps at the housing have a rosette embossed outside and "C.S." embossed inside; this might be a hint to the press stud maker and so to the origin o fthe glass. |
