Goerz 9x20 mit Hebel-Fokussierung

Das frühe Triëder-Monocle 9x20 hat eine Hebelfokussierung (s. Hofmann Monocular) und noch die florale Deckelinschrift "C.P. Goerz" mit Verzierungen. Eine Vergrößerungsangabe ist nicht zu sehen. Es handelt sich aber um das 9x Modell mit Codewort "Motrigon", das gleiche Maße und Bauweise eines linken Binocle-Glases hat.
Der Korpus und die Deckel sind aus Aluminium. Die Prismem werden direkt durch den dreifach verschraubten Deckel im gegossenen Prismengehäuse gehalten. Die Objektivfassung, die aufgeschraubte Metallplatte mit Hebel und das Okularstück sind aus Messing. Diese Messingteile waren schwarz lackiert (s. zwei letzten Fotos). Die Augenmuschel ist aus Bakelit und aufgrund der Fokussierungsart ohne Dioptrienskala.

Goerz 9x20 with lever focusing

This early Triëder-Monocle 9x20 has a lever focusing (s. Hofmann Monocular) and still "C.P. Goerz" markings with floral ornamental script. There is no magnification given, it must be a 9x model with codeword "Motrigon" though, as it has the same dimensions and design as the 9x20 Binocle.
The body and its covers are made of aluminium. The prisms are held by the covers (3 screws) directly within the cast housing. The objective frame, the lever and the screwed on plate as well as the ocular are made of brass. These brass parts were once lacquered black (s. last two photos). The eyecup is mad of Bakelite, and because of the focusing system without a dioptre scale.

Das Fokussieren geschieht durch Heraus- und Hereinschieben des inneren Okulartubus mit Linsensystem. Dabei dreht der außenliegende Hebel ein Zahnrad innen, welches eine Zahnschiene am nach innen verlängerten Okulartubus bewegt.

Focusing is achieved by moving in and out the inner ocular tube with its lens system. The lever turns a cogwheel inside, which moves a toothed rack that is a prolonged attachment to the ocular tube.

Das Monokular ist 105-115mm lang, das dreieckige Gehäuse ist 46x46x52mm breit, und ohne Deckelrand 67mm hoch. Die Objektivfassung ist 23mm, das Messing-Okularstück 20mm, die Augenmuschel unten 25mm und außen 30mm im Durchmesser. Das Gewicht beträgt 186g.

The monocular is 105-115mm in length, the sides of the triangular housing measure 46mm, 46x and 52mm, the housing being 67mm tall. The objective frame is 23mm, the brass eyepiece 20mm, the eyecup is 25mm in diameter at the lower end and 30mm in diameter at its outer end. Weight is 186g.

Goerz Monokular mit Hebelfokussierung

Ein späteres Exemplar ist bereits mit serifenlosen Druckbuchstaben "x9 C.P. Goerz. Berlin" und der Seriennummer "49969" am oberen Deckel gekennzeichnet. Es stammt aus dem Jahr 1903 und die "x9" Schreibweise deutet auf eine Produktion für den Britischen Markt hin.

A later specimen is already marked with sans-serif capital letters "x9 C.P. Goerz. Berlin" and serial number 49969 at the top cover. It dates from 1903. The "x9" inscription hints to a model made for the British market.
