Goerz Monokular 12x20 mit Hebelfokussierung

Dieses Goerz Trieder-Monocle 12x (Codewort "Motrio") ist eine frühes 12x20 Exemplar von der Jahrhundertwende um 1903 – die Seriennummer ist 49979. Der obere Deckel ist mit "C.P. Goerz Berlin" beschriftet. Es hat einen seitlichen Hebel zum Auf- und Abbewegen des Okulars und somit zum Fokussieren. Diese Art der Eisntellung gab es sonst nur bei den ersten Porro/Hofmann-Modellen.

Goerz Monocular 12x20 with lever focusing

This Goerz Trieder-Monocle 12x (code word "Motrio") is an early 12x20 specimen, dating from the turn of the century (1903) – serial number is 49979. The top cover is inscribed "C.P. Goerz Berlin" It has a lever to move the ocular to and fro, thus focussing. This lever focus was already used with the first Porro/Hofmann models, and stays quite unique.

Der Hebel ist auf einer 10fach verschraubten Metallplatte am breitesten Korpusteil des dreieckigen Gehäuses befestigt. Dieser Metallstreifen ist mit "W M Calder University Manchester" graviert. W.M. Calder war Professor an der University of Manchester am Anfang des 20. Jh und scheinbar Besitzer des Monokulars.
Durch die Hebelfokussierung unterscheidet es sich von dem späteren Goerz 12x 20/21.		 The lever is mounted on a metal strip, which is held by 10screws at the broadest side of the triangular housing. This metal strip is marked "W M Calder University Manchester". W.M. Calder was a professor at Manchester University at the beginning of the 20. century, and seemingly owner of the monocular.
The lever focussing makes a difference between this and the later Goerz 12x 20/21 model.

Das Monokular ist aus Messing und Aluminium. Die Deckel sind schwarz lackiert und der Korpus mit braunem Leder ummantelt. In der vom Okular abgewandten Seite ist die Angabe "12x" ins Leder geprägt. Auf der dem Okular nahen Seite befindet sich oben die Öse für den Trageriemen. Die Augenmuschel ist komplett aus Bakelit/Vulkanit und mit einem Schräubchen am Okulartubus fixiert. Es gibt keine Dioptrienskalen.
Der passende Lederköcher ist hellbraun und zeigt starke Gebrauchsspuren.

 The monocular is made of brass and aluminium. The body covers are painted black, and the housing is covered with brown leather. The leather part oppostie to the ocular side is stamped "12x". The strap lug is at the ocular side. The eye-cup is wholly made of Bakelite/vulcanite. It is fixed to the ocular tube by atiny screw. There is no dioptre scale.
The matching leather case is light brown and worn.
