Askania 12x60

Askania mainly made optics for military use. This 12x60 monocular served with a second specimen as a director scope on a cine-theodolite. Comparing the 8x40 and 10x60 models this is quite a big version regarding its 12x60 specifications and length. It is lacquered white (other one grey), has a dove-tail mount at the bottom of its conical tube. Under the prism housing, there is a 2 pin socket for the power supply. The cable is led outside again at the back of the scope, ready to connect to the lighting unit, which then illuminates the reticle through two red glass windows. The reticle consists of four right angled lines in the corners plus a centred short cross-hair spaced in the very middle. The eyepiece has a dioptre adjustment from + to - 5 with a scale being marked at each division. On top of the tube we can find a screwed-on label plate and a screw for the desiccation opening. There also was a rain-guard tube.

Like the other 90° telescopes this one also reflects and erects the path of light with the help of an Amici roof prism.
The 12x60 is 40cm long and c. 14cm tall. The objective tube increases from 64 to 114mm in diameter. The housing measures 83x66x72mm. The round eyepiece socket disc is 90mm, the eyepiece itself 55mm, and the focusing part 65mm in diameter. The eyecup is missing. The monocular weighs 3125g.
