Lawrence & Mayo 8x20 Monocular

Das 8x20 Monokular stammt von den Londoner Optikern "Lawrence & Mayo", was noch schwach auf dem schwarz lackierten Alugehäusedeckel zu erkennen ist. Die ursprüngliche, wahrscheinlich 3/3, Augenmuschel fehlt und wurde mit einem einfachen Gummiring ersetzt. Am Gehäuse ist ein kurzer Messingstreifen mit Trageriemenöse doppelt angeschraubt. Die genannten Merkmale sprechen für eine Produktionszeit zu Beginn 1900. Vergleiche mit dem 12x20 Modell lassen vermuten, dass es sich um eine Fertigung der Firma E. Busch Rathenow handelt. Das Gehäuse ist ungewöhnlicherweise mit einem Alublech ummantelt und mit 6 Nieten befestigt; die Oberflächenstruktur des Blechs imitiert eine feine Ledermaserung. Die Ummantelung war eventuell ebenfalls schwarz lackiert.

This 8x20 monocular was made by Lawrence & Mayo London, which is inscribed at the black painted top cover plate and is faintly still visible. The original, probably 3/3 eyecup is missing and was substituted by a simple rubber ring. There is a short bras metal lip with a strap lug attached to the housing (2 screws). These features suggest a production period at the beginning of 1900. Comparisons with the 12x20 model indicate that it was manufactured by the company E. Busch Rathenow. Quite unusual, the housing is covered with an aluminium sheet plate being fixed by six rivets. The sheet surface imitates a fine leather finish. Maybe, the covering was painted black as well.
