Steward 'Rectiform' 8x30

Das 8x30 Monokular mit der Modellbezeichnung "Rectiform" vom Londoner Optikerbetrieb J.H. Steward (406 The Strand) dürfte aufgrund der Kennzeichnung nur mit "x8" anstelle von 8x30 um den 1. Weltkrieg hergestellt worden sein (!?). Es stammt aus dem Besitz eines britischen Offiziers. Dessen Namen und Zugehörigkeit ist jeweils auf dem Deckel und Boden des Lederköchers, als auch eingeritzt auf dem unteren Deckel des Monokular, markiert. Es handelt sich um 'Major S.A. Carr BM/91720 London WC I(I)'. Das Monokular ist aus Aluminium mit einer Rauhlackummantelung. Nicht nur die Augenmuschel ist aus Kunststoff, sondern auch die aufgeschraubte Fassung am Objektiv. Die Optik ist unvergütet. Das linksseitige Okular hat einen umlaufende Dioptrienskals von + bis - 5. Außer dem Lederköcher ist auch der Trageriemen erhalten.

The 8x30 monocular with model name 'Rectiform' by London optician J.H. Steward (406 The Strand) must date from around WWI, as it is marked only with "x8" instead of 8x30 (!?)- It was owned by a British officer whose name and living place is marked on the cover lid and bottom of the leather case as well as on the bottom cover plate of the monocular. The officer was 'Major S.A. Carr BM/91720 London WC I(I)'. The monocular is made of aluminium with a rough lacquer covering. Not only the eyecup but also the objective ring screwed onto the objective frame is some plastic or Bakelite. The optics are uncoated. The left-hand sided ocular has a knurled ring and a dioptre scale ranging from + to - 5 marked with division lines all around. Besides the leather case the leather carrying strap has survived.

Das Monokular wiegt 216g mit Trageriemen. Es ist 109 - 116mm lang und 52x52mm oben bzw. 56x56mm unten am Gehäuse breit. Der Durchmesser des Okulars ist 32mm, der des Objektivrahmens 36mm. Das Sehfeld ist ca. 150/1000m.
