Steiner 'Commander' 7x50

Das Steiner 'Commander' 7x50 (EB) Monokular ist mit einem Kompass (s. Bild geöffneter Deckel) ausgestattet. Dieser kann auch bei Nacht beleuchtet werden (2 Knopfzellen 1,44V). Die Gradabweichung wird in einem kleinen Fenster unten im Okularblickfeld von 0-360° eingeblendet. Außerdem gibt es eine vertikale Peillinie mit Markierungen ausgehend von Null nach unten bis 20 und nach oben bis 30, wobei die Skala komplett mit kleinen Horiziontallinien markiert ist. Die olivgrüne Gummiarmierung lässt auf einen militärischen Ursprung schliessen (Steiner produziert für die Bundeswehr), eignet sich aber auch für Segler. Das Monokular ist spritzwassrgeschützt und hat einen Objektivdeckel. Am angeschraubten Handgriff aus Hartplastik befindet sich der Schalter für das Kompasslicht und unten ein Montagegewinde für ein Stativ; die Trageschlaufe am Gehäuse erleichtern das Halten. Der Dioptrienausgleich ist mit 4 Teilstrichen von Plus bis Minus gekennzeichnet. Die Augenmuschel ist aus Weichgummi und für Brillenträger zurückklappbar. Der Kompassdeckel ist mit dem Steiner-Emblem und "Commander 7x50" beschriftet, die Objektiv-seitige Gummierung entweder mit "GA" (für gummiarmiert) oder mit "Steiner Germany". Die Halteschraube für den Objektivschutzdeckel ist beim vorliegenden Exemplar mit "7x50 EB Made in W. Germany" und mit der Seriennummer 46835 gekennzeichnet.

The Steiner 'Commander' 7x50 (EB) Monocular is supplied with a compass (see picture with opened cover). This can be lightened by night (2 AA batteries needed). The diviation is projected into a small display at the bottom of the ocular image as 0-360 degrees. Moreover, there is a vertical bearing line with marks starting from zero – downward marked 10 and 20, upwards 10, 20 and 30 – the horizontal division lines running completely from top to bottom. The olive green rubber armouring hints at a military use (Steiner produced optics for the German army), but is also a helpful device for maritime use. So, the monocular is spray water resistant and has a lens cap. There is a switch for the compass light at the screwed-on handle as well as atripod thread at the bottom. A strap makes holding and viewing easier. The dioptre adjustment has 4 marking lines from +4 to -4. The soft rubber eyecup can be folded down for spectacle wearers. The compass is inscribed with the Steiner emblem and "Commander 7x50" model name. The rubber covering is marked either with "GA" for German "gummiarmiert" (= rubber armoured) or "Steiner Germany". The reference model is also marked "7x50 EB Made in W. Germany" and with serial number 46835 at the screw plate holding the objective cap.

Das 947g schwere Monokular hat ein gummiarmiertes Gehäuse mit runder Schulter, welches ca. 10x8x6cm breit ist. Mit dem 40mm dicken linksseitigem Okular und der 65mm dicken Objektivfassung ist 138mm bis 145mm hoch. Der 13,2cm lange Griff ist an einer gebogenen Metallplatte geschraubt, welche am Gelenkscharnier anstelle einer linken Fernglashälfte montiert ist. Der Lichtschalter hat einen 22mm Durchmesser, die Kompassdose 59-61mm bei einer Höhe von 22mm.

The 947g monocular has a rubber armoured body with a round shoulder measuring c. 10x8x6cm. All in all with its 40mm left-hand sided ocular and its 65mm objective frame the glass is 138mm to 145mm tall. The 13.2cm long handle is screwed to a bended metal plate, which is attached to the hinge that would otherwise bear the left half of the corresponding binocular. The light switch has a 22mm diameter, and the compass box has one of 59-61mm being 22mm high.
