W.&.H. Seibert "Superlux"

Das hier abgebildete Spektiv wurde von der Firma W. & H. Seibert aus Wetzlar ca. in den 1920er Jahren gefertigt und nach Wunsch mit 20x, 30x oder 40x Okular geliefert (s. Katalogseite 1926). Die Gebrüder Wilhelm und Heinrich Seibert arbeiteten zunächst bei "Seibert & Krafft" (Wetzlar, 1871-1884), anschließend als W.& H. Seibert bis zum Tod von Wilhelm (Wetzlar, 1884 - 1925; Nachfolger sind wahrscheinlich Otto Seibert Wetzlar GmbH & Co KG (Optische Komponenten) sowie später Arthur Seiberts EMO-Optik.

The spotting scope depicted here was made by W. & H. Seibert in Wetzlar, dating from around the 1920s. It was sold by request with a 20x, 30x or 40x eyepiece (cf. catalogue page, 1926). The brothers Wilhelm and Heinrich Seibert first worked at "Seibert & Krafft" (Wetzlar, 1871-1884), then under the name "W.& H. Seibert" until Wilhelm' death (Wetzlar, 1884 - 1925; successors to them are probably Otto Seibert Wetzlar GmbH & Co KG (optical parts), and later Arthur Seiberts EMO-Optik.

Das 1210g schwere Spektiv Modell "Superlux" hat ein Porro-II-Prismen-System in dem dafür typischen dosenförmigen Gehäuse (Durchmesser 58mm, 26mm hoch). Das Gehäuse ist neben dem Modellnamen und dem Firmenlogo sowie der "No 36991" (40x Modell) bzw."No 35943" (30x Modell) beschriftet. Das 24mm breite Okular hat eine Kunststoffaugenmuschel und lässt sich zum Fokussieren drehen, eine Dioptrienskala ist jedoch nicht vorhanden. Der 43cm lange Objektivtubus verbreitert sich von 33mm am Gehäuse auf 66mm am Objektivende. Die Objektivlinse ist 56mm im Durchmesser. Im Tubus befindet sich eine Gesichtsfeldblende in der Nähe des Objektivs. Am Tubus aufgeschraubt sind eine Visiereinrichtung, welche sich am Gehäuseübergang wegklappen lässt, und eine Stativhalterung mit Feststellhebel und Arretierschraube. Alle Teile sind schwarz lackiert.

This "Superlux" model weighing 1210g has a porro II prism system, which is contained in the can-shaped housing typoical for that (diameter 58mm, 26mm tall). The housing is marked "No 36991" (40x model) or "No 35943" (30x model) besides the company's logo and the model name. The 24mm ocular has a plastic eye-cup and can be turned for focussing, but there is no dioptre scale. The objective tube being 43cm long widenes from 33mm at the housing to 66mm at the objective end. The objective lens has a diameter of 56mm. There is a diaphragm inside the tube near the objective. It also has notch and bead sights, of which the one near the housing can be flipped down. The screwed-on tripod mount has a adjustment lever and screw. All parts are lacquered in black.

Das Spektiv kann in einem Holzkasten transportiert werden. Das zweite Fach war wohl für ein Stativ vorgesehen, welches nicht mehr vorhanden ist. Außerdem gibt es einen aufstülpbaren Sonnen-Objektivfilter (Foto 1: Kasten rechts unten). Letztere diente wohl zur Beobachtung der Sonne. Auch die hohe Vergrößerung spricht dafür, dass das Spektiv für astronomische Beobachtungen gedacht war.

The spotting scope comes with a wooden box. The second compartment was used for the tripod which is missing by now. There also is a slip-on filter for use when observing the sun (photo 1: box bottom right). This item and the high magnification are clues that the scope was intented for astronomical observations.
