Ross 4x24

Dies ist die monokulare Variante des nur in 1936 für das Militär hergestellte "Steplow 4x24" von Ross, London mit einem Porro-2-Prismensystem. Der obere Deckel trägt die Beschriftung "Binocular Prismatic No 6 Mk1 x4" im Ross-Linsenlogo und darunter die Seriennummer "No 4741". Rechts davon ist auch der "Krähenfuß" eingestempelt. Das Glas hat ein Sehfeld von 210m/1000m oder 12°. Es wurde wohl für die Flugabwehr gebaut, stellte sich aber schnell als zu untauglich für den Zweck heraus (s. Rohan "Guide to Handheld Military Binoculars", S. 152).
Es ist aus Aluminium mit einem schwarzen Strukrutlack. Die Augenmuschel besteht aus einm dünnen Plastikabschlussring. Das 4x24 ist 131 - 144mm lang und wiegt 260g. Die für Porro-2-Gläser typische runde Prismendose als Gehäuse ist 34mm hoch und 59mm bzw. 60mm im Durchmesserr an dem Metallring mit eingegossener Trageriemenöse. Das rechtsseitige Okular ist 33mm, der Fokussierungsteil 36mm und die Augenmuschel 34mm im Durchmesser. Der 62mm lange konische Objektivtubus beginnt mit 28mm und endet bei 41mm im Durchmesser.

This is the monocular version of the "Steplow 4x24" by Ross, London which has a porro 2 prism system, and was only produced in 1936 for the army. The top cover is isncribed "Binocular Prismatic No 6 Mk1 x4" in the Ross lens logo. Below it gibes serial number "No 4741". Also the broad arrow is stamped at the right of the logo. The monocular has a field of view of 210m/1000m or 12° It was made for ainti-aircraft surveillance, but proved to be inadequate for this purpose (s. Rohan "Guide to Handheld Military Binoculars", S. 152).
It is made of aluminium with a black textured finish. The eyecup is jsut a thin platic end ring. The 4x24 measures 131 - 144mm in length, and weighs 260g. The porro 2 typical prism box is 34mm high and 59mm in diameter, or 60mm wide at the metal end with teh cast-in strap lug. The right-hand sided ocular is 33mm, the focusing ring 36mm,a nd the eyecup 34mm in diameter. The 62mm long conical objective tube starts with a 28mm diameter and ends with a 41 mm in diameter.
