Ottway Telescope 3-9x

Das "Ottway & Co. Ltd. Ealing" - so die Aufschrift am Okulartubusteil ist ein "Gunsighting" (Zielfernrohr für Geschütze) von "1910" mit zoombarer Vergrößerung von 3- bis 9fach, daher auch mit "Patent V.P. (variable power) 3 to 9" gekennzeichnet. Diese Vergrößerung ist mit dem breiten geriffelten Ring einstellbar. Beim Drehen korrespondieren die Ziffern 3, 5, 7, 9 mit einem Pfeil am Abschlussring zum Hauptubus. Gegenüber des Pfeils am Ring steht "Patt. No. G327Y". Beim Pfeil, aber am Haupttubus befindet sich noch die Gravur des "broad arrow" und "W A/T". Am Okular-seitigen Rand des breiten Einstellrings ist bei der Riffelung zum einen "Turn to change power", die Nummer "2943" und "NPL 43" (Prüfstelle "National Physical Laboratory") eingraviert, zum anderen am äußeren Rand die Dioptrienskala zwischen +2, Null und -2. Das zum Fokussieren drehbare Okularende hat einen entsprechenden Justierstrich und ist mit "Turn to focus" beschriftet. Auch hier ist ein geriffelter Ring; die Gummi oder Lederaugenmuschel fehlt. Die Messingteile sind schwarz lackiert, nicht jedoch der Hauptubus, an dem sich eine angeschraubte Beleuchtungshülse (Kennzeichnungsnummer 2943) und ein aufgeschraubter Zylinder (Rohr) befindet. Letzterer ist wahrscheinlich die Halterung für eine Trockenpatrone. Der Tubus der 43 mm Objektiblinse ist mit einer aufgeschraubten schwarz lackierten Endkappe gefasst, die eine Art Sonnenblende bildet.

The designation with the "broad arrow" and "W A/T" is next to the above arrow, but on the main barrel. Further inscriptions are: "Turn to change power", the number "2943" and "NPL 43" (test center "National Physical Laboratory") are engraved next to the knurling on the rim of the wide adjustment ring. On the other end of the adjustment ring towards the eyepiece there is a dioptre scale ranging between + 2, zero and - 2. On the eyepiece, which can be rotated for focusing, theree is a corresponding adjustment line; it is labeled "Turn to focus". Here too is a knurled ring. The rubber or leather eyecup is missing. The brass parts are painted black, but not so the main tube, which has a screwed-on lighting socket (identification number 2943) and an screwed-on tube. The latter is probably neabt to hold a desiccation cartridge. The tube of the 43 mm objective lens is covered with a black lacquered end cap that is screwed on and forms a kind of rayshade.

Das Gunsighting telescope ist zwischen 58 und 61 cm lang. Der Haupttubus, die Objektivfassung und der Zoomring sind 64 mm, das Okularstück und der Fokussierungsring 55 mm und der Ring zum Aufstecken der Augenmuschel 51 mm im Durchmesser. Die 60 mm lange Hülse für die Beleuchtungseinheit ist 21 mm, die 96 mm lange Hülse für die Trockenpatrone 25 mm im Durchmesser. Das Teleskop wiegt 5,6 kg.

The gunsighting telescope is between 58 and 61 cm long depending on focusing. The main tube, objective lens cover and the zoom ring are 64 mm in diameter, the eyepiece and focusing ring are 55 mm in diameter and the ring for attaching the eyecup is 51 mm in diameter. The 60mm long socket for the lighting unit is 21mm in diameter, the 96mm long sleeve for the desiccation cartridge is 25mm in diameter. The telescope weihgs 5.6 kg.
