Mark II 12x32 Monocular

Dieses Monokular trägt keine Herstellerbezeichnung, könnte aber in England oder Frankreiche produziert worden sein. Die Beschriftung mit "Mark II, No 632 Power 12x32mm" weist auf eine militärische Verwendung hin (Mark ...), jedoch ist die Angabe mit Millimetern recht ungewöhnlich. Auch die Spezifikation mit 12x32 ist für frühe militärische Gläser eher ungewöhnlich und aufgrund einer Austrittspupille von 3mm nicht zutreffend (ergäbe 10x32). Eine Zuordnung der Kennzeichnungen zu bekannten Typen scheint auch nicht gegeben. Nicht nur die Augenmuschel, sondern auch die Objektivlinsenfassung ist aus Bakelit. Die Augenmuscheöl ist nicht original. Die Messingteile waren oder sind schwarz lackiert, während das Aluminiumgehäuse mit Leder ummantelt ist. Eine Trageöse ist nicht vorhanden. Der obere Deckel ist dreifach, der untere zweifach verschraubt.

This monocular has no maker's marks. It could be made in England or probably France. The inscriptions run "Mark II, No 632 Power 12x32mm", thus hinting to a military use (Mark ...). Yet, the specification in millimetres is unusual. The optical data of 12x32 is rather uncommon for early military glasses. Moreover, having a exit pupil of 3mm the magnification of 12 is too high (should be 10x32). A classification to specific models given by these markings is not possible either. Not only the eyecup, but also the objektive frame is mad of Bakelite. The eyecup is not original. The brass parts were or still are painted black, whereas the aluminium body is coivered with leather. There is no strap lug. The top cover plate is held with three, the bottom one with two screws.

Das 12x32 ist 148-155mm lang und wiegt 284g. Das Gehäuse ist 50x50mm oben und 53x53mm unten breit bei einer Höhe von 52mm. Das rechtsseitige Okular ist 24mm, der Fokussierungsteil 28mm und die Augenmuschel 34mm im Durchmesser. Der Objektivtubus verbreitert sich von 29mm auf 40mm bzw. 38mm bei der Bakelit-Objektivfassung.

The 12x32 is 145-155mm tall and weighs 284g. The housing measures 50x50 at its top and 53x53mm at its bottom. It is 52mm tall. The right-hand sided ocualr is 24mm, the focusing ring 28mm, and the the eyecup 34mm in dieamter. The conical objective tube broadens from 29mm to 40mm at its brass end, or 38mm at its Bakelite objective lens frame.
