Leitz 12x46

Das Leitz 12x46 taucht in Katalogen als binokulares "Militär-Prismen-Fernrohr" um 1910-1914 auf. Die gebogene Gehäuseform wird in Sammlerkreisen aufgrund ihres Aussehens als "Leberwurst" bezeichnet. Das 12x46 hat einen Leder-ummantelten Aluminiumkörper mit zwei Trageriemenösen und einen schwarz lackierten oberen Messingdeckel, der seitlich mit drei Schrauben befestigt ist. Der gerade Objektivtubus hat eine ausziehbare Sonnenblende. Das Okular hat eine komplett umlaufende Dioptrienskala mit Kennzeichnungen bei + und - 5. Die Augenmuschel ist aus Bakelit. Ein passender Lederköcher ist noch vorhanden. Der obere Deckel ist mit lateinischen Buchstaben "E. Leitz Wetzlar 12x" und der Seriennummer "9304". Der Besitzer ließ zwei Schreibschrift-Gravuren anbringen. Rechts ist "Privat Eigentum" eingraviert, was darauf hinweist, dass das Monokular von einem Offizier privat gekauft wurde. Links steht dessen Name "L. Mohr" und der Name der Festung "Metz-Queuleu", wo er diente. Das Modell, die Firmenbeschriftung und die privaten Gravuren passen alle zu einer zeitlichen Einordnung um 1910/11.

The Leitz 12x46 is depicted in some 1910-1914 catalogues as a binocular "Military Prism.Teelscope". The bent body shape is often called "liver sausage" because of its appearance. The 12x46 has a leather covered aluminium housing with two strap lugs and a black lacquered top cover plate. The latter is fixed with three screws on the side. The straight objective tube has an extendable sunshade. The eyepeice comes with a full dioptre scale marked at + and - 5. The eyecup is made of Bakelite. A matching leather case survived the centuries. The top cover is marked "E. Leitz Wetzlar 12x" in LAtin letters, and with the serial number "9304". The owner of the monocular had two handscirpt engravings made. On the right it says "Privat Eigentum" (= private property) which denotes that the monocular was privately bought by some officer. Left to the Latin markings it gives his name "L. Mohr" and the name of the fortification "Metz-Queuleu", where he served. The model, the company'S markings, and the private engravings all match to a production date of about 1910/11.

Das Monokular ist 215-225mm lang. Das Gehäuse ist oben 54x43mm breit und verläuft nach unten in eine 46mm und 48mm breiten Tubus. Der gerade Tubus ist 51mm, die 61mm lange Sonennblende 56mm im Durchmesser. Der 16mm lange konische Teil verbreitert sich von 46 auf 56mm im Durchmessser. Das Okularstück ist 23,5mm, der Fokussierungsteil 28mm und die Augenmuschel 34mm im Durchmesser.

The monocular is 215-225mm long. Thehousing measures 54x43mm at its top and end at tis bottom with a 46x48mm wide tube. The straight tube is 51mm, the 61mm long sunshade is 56mm in diameter. The 16mm long conical part icnreases from 46mm to 56mm in diameter. The eyepiece is 23.5mm, the focusing pece is 28mm, and the eyecup is 34mm in diameter.
