Lawrence & Mayo 8x20 Monocular

Das 8x20 Monokular stammt von den Londoner Optikern "Lawrence & Mayo", was noch schwach auf dem schwarz lackierten Alugehäusedeckel zu erkennen ist. Die ursprüngliche, wahrscheinlich 3/3, Augenmuschel fehlt und wurde mit einem einfachen Gummiring ersetzt. Am Gehäuse ist ein kurzer Messingstreifen mit Trageriemenöse doppelt angeschraubt. Die genannten Merkmale sprechen für eine Produktionszeit um 1900. Das Gehäuse ist ungewühnlicherweise mit einem Alublech ummantelt und mit 6 Nieten befestigt; die Oberflächenstruktur des Blechs imitiert eine feine Ledermaserung. Die Ummantelung war eventuell ebenfalls schwarz lackiert.

This 8x20 monocular was made by Lawrence & Mayo London, which is inscribed at the black painted top cover plate and is faintly still visible. The original, probably 3/3 eyecup is missing and was substituted by a simple rubber ring. There is a short bras metal lip with a strap lug attached to the housing (2 screws). These features hint a a production date around 1900. Quite unusual the housing is covered with a aluminium sheet plate being fixed by six rivets. The sheet surface imitates a fine leather finish. Maybe, the covering was painted black as well.
