Kollmorgen "Monette" 8x

Dieses Monokular gibt bezüglich der Datierung ein Rätsel auf. Die äußere Form und Schriftgestaltung lässt auf eine Herstellung vor denm ersten Weltkrieg oder etwas später schliessen. So ist der Aluminiumtubus z.T. schwarz lackiert, in der Länge mit braunem Leder ummantelt, wobei die dicke Verbindungsnaht auf eine sehr frühe Produktion hindeutet. Hingegen ist die Optik vergütet und das Monokular hat ein Schmidt-Dachkant-Prisma innen, was wiederum auf eine Produktion nach dem 2. Weltkrieg shcliessen lässt. Das Okular ist inklusive Augenmuschel komplett aus schwarz lackiertem Metall. Zum Hauptubus hin ist eine Dioptrienskala mit Strichen von plus bis minus 6 und Kennzeichnungen von "6 3 - 0 + 3 6". Zwischedn zwei geriffelten Fokussierungsringen ist die Beschriftung eingraviert. Sie lautet: "Kollmorgen Corp. Brooklyn N.Y. 'Monette 8x' Pat.Pend. Made in U.S.A.". Dabei ist alles in Großbuchstaben geschrieben, nur 'Monette 8x' in einer Art Schreibschrift. Diese Modellbezeichnung ist eine Zusammenstellung aus "Monokular" und dem französiche Wort "lunette" für Fernrohr.

This monocular is quite a riddle concerning production date. The outwards appearance and kind of inscription hints at a production before WWI or shortly after. So the aluminium tube is painted black, and covered with leather on the main part. Yet, the main leather seam hints at a very early date. In opposition to taht the optics are coated and the prism system is a Schmidt rooftop prism, hinting at a post WWII model. The ocular is made of black painted metal including the eyecup. Next to the main tube is a dioptre scale with division lines from plus to minus six, and markings at "6 3 - 0 + 3 6". The inscription lies between two knurled focusing bands: "Kollmorgen Corp. Brooklyn N.Y. 'Monette 8x' Pat.Pend. Made in U.S.A.". All letters are capitals, except for 'Monette 8x' which is sort of a handwriting script. This model name is a composition of "Monocular" and the French word for telescope "lunette".
