Dm-2v 8x30 (Vingtiemes) Monocular

Hier handelt es sich um ein Porro II Prismen-Monokular, welches vermutlich für das Militär in Frankreich oder während der deutschen Besaztungszeit hergestellt wurde. Da die Optik nicht unvergütet ist, spricht es für eine Herstellungszeit zwischen 1918 und 1945. Es könnte von der Firma "Huet" gebaut worden sein, da es fast identische binokulare Huet-Fernglas gab (s. Foto 3; vgl. Seeger "Militärische ..." oder Rohan "A guide ..."). Auch die Geradführung des 42mm (!) breiten Okulars deutet auf "Huet" hin, da diese derartige Okularjustierungen verwendeten. Die Gravur im oberen Deckel des dosenförmigen Prismengehäuses lautet: "Dm-2v 8x30 8°30' VINGTIEMES, MV (oder Mg) 1933 Type 2 No10546". Damit sind Angaben zur Vergößerung und Objektivdurchmesser, dem Sehfeld (8°30') und ggf. dem Herstellungsdatum "1933" gemacht. Das Kürzel "Dm-2v" ist mir unbekannt, der 2. Buchstabe der Initialien 'MV' ist schlecht zu interpretieren und würde als 'MG' die Abkürzung für das Kriegsministerium "ministre du guerre" stehen. Offen bleibt, ob es lediglich die Hälfte eines Binokulars ist.

Here we have a porro II prism monocular, probably made for military usein France. As the optics are uncoated it should date from about 1920 to 1945. The "Huet" company moght be the producer, because a similiar binocular was on sale at Ebay (s. pic 3). Moreover the the 42mm wide ocular has a linear movement which was a feature of some other Huet glasses. The engraving at the top cover of the can shaped prism housing runs "Dm-2v 8x30 8°30' VINGTIEMES, MV (or Mg) 1933 Type 2 No10546". So specifications about magnification, objective lens diameter, f.o.v (o.e. 8!30') and maybe the production date (1933) are given. The abbreviation 'Dm-2v' does not say anything to me, and the second letter of "MV" is hard to decipher. If it is "Mg" it might stand for "Ministre du Guerre" the French War Ministry. It remains uncertain whether this is onmly a binocular half.

Das Monokular weist neben der Geradführung und der erheblichen Dicke des Okular einige weiutere Besonderheiten auf. Auch die Bakelit-Augenmuschel ist 40mm im Durchmesser und 15mm hoch; die Dioptirenskala, welche von + 1 bis -4 reicht, und nur mit Strichen und "+", 0 und "-" markiert ist, liegt an der schrägen Seite des Okularstückes oberhalb des Fokussierungsringes; der obere Deckel wird durch einen übergestülpten Gewindering auf der Prismendose festgeschraubt – möglicherweise als Abdichtung oder Fixierung befindet sich zwischen Gehäuserand und Deckel ein dünner Messingring (s. Foto 4); zudem ist der Objektivtubus gerade und nicht wie oft konisch nach außen zulaufend (vgl. auch Objektivtubus beim binokularen Glas, Foto 3).

This monocular has some striking features apart from the linear movement and the wide diameter of the ocular. The Bakelite eye-cup also is 40mm in diameter and some 15mm tall; the dioptre scale ranging from +1 to -4 is only marked "+ 0 -" and located at ascloping part of the ocular above the focussing ring. The top cover is fastened by a threaded ring slipped over the cover plate and screwed onto the round prism housing – a thin brass ring is put between the rim of the housing and the cover plate (s. pic 4) probably as sort of sealing or fixation. Furthermore the oobjective tube is straight, not conical as with most glasses (cf. also the binocular version, photo 3).

Das Monokular ist hauptsächlich aus Messing mit einigen Aluminiumteilen gefertigt und wiegt so 438g mit Trageriemen. Alle Metallteile sind schwarz lackiert. Das Gehäuse hat eine Öse für den Trageriemen. Das Okularstück ist 55mm lang, das Prismengehäuse 42mm hoch, der Objektivtubus 64mm lang, so dass eine gesamtlänge von 161mm (bzw. 156mm bei hereingeschraubtem Okular) erreicht wird. Das Prismengehäuse hat einen Durchmeser von 62mm, der Objektivtubus 39mm am Gehäuse nahen Teil und 41mm beim Objektivendstück.

The monocular is mostly made of brass with some aluminium parts. It weighs 438g with its strap. All metal parts are lacquered black. There is a strap lug cast in the housing. The eyepiece measures 55mm, the prism housing 42mm, and the objective tube 64mm, thus being 161mm in overall length (or 156mm with the ocular turned down). The prism box is 62mm in diameter, the objective tube 39mm near the housing and 41mm at its objective end-
