Carl Zeiss Jena "Starmor" 14x 24x 42x 60

The monocular Tourist Telescope "Starmor" was produced in two variants from about 1914 until the 2nd World War. The first STarmor as made until about 1921, the secone Starmor from 1922-1940. The first pictures shows the variants in comparison. In the second photo next to the black standard model there is greyish-white naval model with a tripod clamp isntead of the tripod attachment at the side.
The Starmor has a eyepiece revolver with three magnifications: 12x, 24x and 42x. The objective lens is 60mm in diameter. The aluminium body is covered with crinkle paint. The Starmor 1 depicted here has somne granular finish, maybe re-painted later. The 80mm objective end also has an extendable ray-shade with a aiming sight. The Starmor comes with a tilting mount which can be fixed to a wooden tripod (see photo below). Th protection cap for the objective was attached with a leather band to a pin-head at the side of the tube of model 1, and attaached to a lug at the bottom of the tube's end of model 2.

The eyepiece revolver is screwed onto a round prism housing, which bears a porro II lens system (cf. picture with the prism of a Starmor 2).The design of the revolver and prism housing are the main features that differ from each other. Each eyepiece has got its own dioptre adjustment and ebonite eyecups. The Starmor 1 shown here comes with metal eyecups.

The Starmor 1 is 42-47cm long depending on the eyepiece used. The prism housing is 80mm, the eyepiece revolver 100mm in diameter. The 315mm long objective tube increases from 45 to 7mm. The tripod mount measures 11cm form its hinge to the end. The scope weighs 2519g, thus being nearly 1kg heavier than its successor model which only weihgs 1549g.
The Starmor 2 is c. 42-48cm long depneding on the eyepeice used. The sunshade canb e extended by 5cm. The prism housing has a 85mm diamter. The 295mm long objective tube increases from 50 to 80mm in diameter.

A big leather case was supplied to carry the telescope. Moreover, the objective could be protected with a metal cap. The Starmor 1 has got the serial number 618, the Starmor 2 has number 2452. While the Starmor 1 models are marked not only with the power of the oculars next to the eyepieces on the revolver cover as well as with the Zeiss logo and the model name plus its serial nubmer, the Starmor 2 models are incribed only wiht the power of the eyepieces on the revolver cover. All other data is marked sidewaays on the tripod mount.
