Carl Zeiss London Ltd. 6x

Dieses Carl Zeiss Monokular wurde in der Londoner Filliale gefertigt und trägt daher auf dem Deckel die Beschriftung mit "Carl Zeiss London L^td." im Linsenlogo. Es ist ein 6x24 Modell aus der Zeit zwischen 1909 und dem ersten Weltkrieg. Da Zeiss London bei Beginn des 1. WK nicht mehr offiziell "Zeiss" sein durfte und nur bis Ende des Krieges existierte, muss es auf jeden Fall vor 1918 gefertigt worden sein. Die Seriennummer hat ein vorangestelltes L.
Die Bauweise und Art ist gleich den anderen Zeiss-Modellen der Zeit. Die mir bekannten Exemplare mit linksseitiges Okular sind zum einen mit "S.2.M.10.446" und "G" (Seriennumemr nicht erkennbar; ca. 1916) zum anderen "L357244" sowie "S.1 M.3303" (ca. 1913/14) beschriftet. Das Exemplar mit rechtsseitigem Okular trägt die Seriennummer "L458278" sowie "S.2. M.10.459" und "G" (ca. 1915-16). "S.1" und "S.2" steht für die Qualitätseingruppierung für Britische Militärgläser.

This Carl Zeiss monocular was made in the London branch and so is marked with the Zeiss lens logo and "Carl Zeiss London L^td.". It is a 6x24 model from between 1909 and WWI. As the London branch were not allowed to be "Zeiss" and only existed until the end of the war, it must date from before 1918. The serial number are preceded by an L.
The design and cosntruction is the one of other contemporary Zeiss models. The specimen known to me with a left-hand sided eyepiece are on one hand marked "S.2.M.10.446" und "G" (serial number not readable: c. 1916), on the other hand marked "L357244" and "S.1 M.3303" )c. 1913/14). The specimen with a right-hand sided eyepiece has the serial number "L458278" and "S.2. M.10.459" plus a "G" (c- 1915-16). "S.1" and "S.2" stand for quality categories of British military glasses.

Das 6x24 ist 103-110mm lang. Das Gehäuse ist oben 43x43mm, unten 45x46mm breit. Die Objektivfassung bzw. die aufgeschraubte Verblendungshülse ist 35mm im Durchmesser. Das Okularstück ist 21mm, der Fokussierungsriung mit einer vertikaler und horizontaler Riffelung ist 24mm und die Augenmuschel 33mm im Durchmesser. Das Modell wiegt 197g.

The 6x24 is 103-110mm long. The hosuing is 43x43mm at its top and 45x46mm at its bottom. The objective tube or screwed-on objective frame is 35mm in diameter. The eyepeice is 21mm, the focusing ring with a vertical and horizontal knurling Riffelung is 24mm, and the eyecup 33mm in diameter. The model weighs 197g.

Andere Exemplare haben lediglich das Carl Zeiss (London) Ltd. Linsenlogo auf dem Deckel und darunter die Jahreszahl 1915. Die Seriennummer befindet sich am Deckelrand L357123 ("Agent Lizards Glasgow" am Deckelrand) und L357143. Diese Monokulare haben linksseitige Okularstücke und zweiteilige Objektivtubusse.

Other specimen only have inscribed the Carl Zeiss (London) Ltd. lens logo and the year 1915 below that. The serial numbers are L357123 (and "Agent Lizards Glasgow") and L357143 being marked on the cover palte rim. They come with left-hand sided eyepieces and contrary to the other mmodels a two part objective frame.
