80° Einblick

Ein weiteres Beobachtungs-Fernrohr oder Richtmann-Fernrohr (s. Kennzeichnungen der Monokulare mit Beob.-F. oder Ri.-F.) ist das 8x40 Monokular mit 80° abgewinkelten Einblick. Es wurde an 4m Entfernungsmessern (1 Exemplar für 2m EM beschriftet) verwendet. Dabei wurde es nicht, wie das 6x30 oder 10x45, oben auf dem EM-Rohr, sondern unten am Rohr mit einer einrastenden Montierung befestigt (s. Fotos).
Das Monokular ist unter dem Okular auf der Rückseite mit einem Typen- und Herstellerschild mit einer der folgenden Kennzeichnungen beschriftet: - Beob.-F. 8x40 (ohne oder mit L bzw. R) für 4mR, darunter blc; - B.F. 8x40L für 4m St.Telem., darunter blc; - Gözet Dür. (= dürbüm) 8x40 sol St. T. 2m, No. 29 (türkisch 'Beobachtungs-Fernglas 8x40 links, Stereo-Telemeter 2m), darunter Carl Zeiss Jena Linsenlogo.

80° angled view

Another type of observation telescope or director's telescope (see monocular markings "Beob.-F." or "Ri.-F.") is the 8x40 monocular with an 80° angled eyepiece. It was used on 4m rangefinders (one unit is marked for the 2m rangefinder). Unlike the 6x30 or 10x45 models, which were mounted on top of the rangefinder tube, this unit was attached to the underside of the tube using a locking mount (see photos).
The monocular bears a type and manufacturer plate on the rear, beneath the eyepiece, with one of the following markings: - Beob.-F. 8x40 (with or without L or R) for 4mR, with "blc" underneath; - B.F. 8x40L for 4m St.Telem., with "blc" underneath; - Gözet Dür. (= dürbüm) 8x40 sol St. T. 2m, No. 29 (Turkish for "Observation Binocular 8x40 Left, Stereo-Telemeter 2m"), with the Carl Zeiss Jena lens logo underneath.

Das Okular entspricht den anderen EM-Fernrohr-Typen, hat eine fokussierbare Strichplatte und - soweit vorhanden - eine Gummiaugenmuschel. Der Montagering für die Augenmuschel lässt sich für Brillenträger oder Gasmaskennutzer verschieben und in seiner Position feststellen. Rückseitig ist rechts oben eine Lampenhülse zur Beleuchtung der Strichplatte und mittig ein Stellknopf zur Filterwahl schräg angebracht. Die Filtergläser sind klar, grau, grün-grau und orange. Die Strichplatte hat horizontal und vertikal von der Mitte aus Einteilungsstriche von 10, 20, 30, 40. Die Strichplattenfokussierung geschieht anhand eines Rings mit kleinem Hebel. Der Lichteinfall lässt sich mit einem zwischen Gehäuse und Fokussierungsring liegenden Stellring ebenfalls mit Hebel regulieren oder ganz "dunkel" schalten. Am Objektivende ist ein abgeschrägtes Regen-/Blendschutzrohr, dessen längeres Rohrstück allerdings seitlich, nicht nach oben zum Okularstück, angeordnet ist; ob dies ein späterer Montagefehler oder Absicht ist, bleibt unbekannt.

The eyepiece is similar to those on other rangefinder telescope models; it features a focusable reticle and—where applicable—a rubber eyecup. The mounting ring for the eyecup can be adjusted and locked in position to accommodate eyeglass or gas mask wearers. On the rear, a lamp housing for reticle illumination is located at the top right, and a filter selection knob is mounted at an angle in the center. The available filter glasses are clear, gray, green-gray, and orange. The reticle features horizontal and vertical graduation marks of 10, 20, 30, and 40—extending outward from the center. Reticle focusing is adjusted via a ring equipped with a small lever. Light intake can also be regulated—or the view completely darkened—using an adjustment ring (also fitted with a lever) positioned between the housing and the focusing ring. At the objective end, there is a beveled rain/glare shield; however, its longer section is positioned to the side rather than facing upward toward the eyepiece—it remains unclear whether this is a later assembly error or intentional.

Das 8x40 wiegt ohne Montageplatte und Beleuchtungseinheit 1430g. Es ist sowohl am Objektiv- wie auch Okularteil 170mm lang, beim Prismengehäuse 55x60mm breit und hat am Objektivtubus und Regenschutzrohr einen 50mm Durchmesser Der Lichtregulierungsring ist 53mm, der Fokussierungsring 56mm, Das Okularstück ist 41mm und der Augenmuschel-Ring 54,5mm im Durchmesser.

Without the mounting plate and illumination unit, the 8x40 weighs 1,430 g. It measures 170 mm in length at both the objective and eyepiece sections, is 55 x 60 mm wide at the prism housing, and has a diameter of 50 mm at the objective tube and rain guard. The light control ring has a diameter of 53 mm, the focusing ring 56 mm, the eyepiece 41 mm, and the eyecup ring 54.5 mm.
