Carl Zeiss Jena 8x28

Dieses Zeiss Jena 8x28 Monokular wird wohl eine Sonderanfertigung in kleiner Serie für Prüf- oder Zielzwecke sein. Es hat eine Strichplatte und am Okulartubus ein kleines Beleuchtungsfenster für diese. Zur Befestigung auf einem Stativ oder Waffe hat es an den vorhandenen Brückstümpfen eine 3fach angeschraubte Platte. Die Beschriftung des oberen Deckels steht dann in aufrechter Leseposition. Bei Ebay wurden Seriennummern 2557725 (ohne Strichplatte) und 2557726 verkauft. NAch den Seriennummern müssten diese ca. 1951 gefertigt worden sein. Das Monokular hat ansonsten die Charakteristika eines Porro-1-Monokulars mit violetter Vergütung. Die Dioptrienskala ist mit Strichen von -4 bis +10 (!) versehen. Die Objektivlinse ist 30mm, wird innen jedoch durch einen Ring auf 28mm reduziert. Das Objektiv ist mit Exzenterringen justiert, welche von einer Objektivfassung abgedcekt werden.

This Zeiss JEna 8x28 monocular must be a special small series meant for usage as a controlling or aiming device. There is a reticle,a dn an tiny illuminating window at the eyepiece's side. For mounting it to a stand or gun it comes with a mounting plate triple screwed to two (bridge) feet on the body. Thus the markings on the cover plate are readable in an upright position. Two models with serial numbers 2557725 (without reticle) and 2557726 were sold on ebay. According to the nubmers they must have been made in aobut 1951. The monoculars has the characteristics of a regular porro 1 monocular, and comes with a violet coating. The dioptre scale has lines from -4 to +10 (!). The objective lens has a 30mm diameter which is reduced inside by a ring. The objective lens is adjusted with eccenter rings, which are covered by a objective frame.

Das 8x28 ist 115-120mm lang,ist oben 49,5x49,5mm und unten 54,5x54,5mm breit. Der Objektivtubus ist 41mm, das Okular ist 29mm, der Fokussierungsteil 34mm und die Kunststoffaugenmuschel 33mm im Durchmesser. Das Gehäuse 66mm lang und die Montageplatte misst 19x53mm. Das Monokular ist 241g schwer.

The 8x28 is 115-120mm long,and measures 49.5x49.5mm at its top and 54.5x54.5mm at its bottom. The objective tube is 41mm, the eyepiece is 29mm, the focusing piece 34mm0 and the plastic eyecup 33mm in diameter. The housing itself is 66mm long and the mounting plate is 19x53mm wide. The monocular weighs 241g.

Ein ähnliches 8x28 mit längerem Objektivtubs hat die Seriennummer 3033062 von 1963 sowie ein 1Q-Zeichen am Deckel. Da das Modell nicht vorliegt, ist ungewiss, ob es auch eine Montagehalterung hat und ob der längere leicht konische Objektivtubus nicht zu einem größeren Linsendurchmesser als 28mm führt. Der Objektivtubus scheint, soweit erkenntlich, nicht mit Vulkanit ummatnelt, sondern nur schwarz lackiert zu sein. Evtl. handelt es sich also um einen Umbau eiens 8x28 Monokulars zu einem 8x40 oder 8x50 Modell.

A similar 8x28 glass with a longer obejctive tube comes with the serial number 3033062 of 1963. There also is the 1Q sign on the top cover plate. As this specimen cannot be examined, it remains uncerain whether it also has mounting feet and a plate, and whether the obejctive diameter may be larger than 28mm because of the slightly conical objective tube. As far as visible, morevoer the objective tube is not covered with Ebonite but only painted black. So, this version probably was covnerted from a 8x28 monocular into a 8x40 or 8x50 model.
