Carl Zeiss Jena 7½x25 (Simpseven)

Das monokulare "Jagdglas"-Modell 7½x25 (Bestellcode "Simpseven") ist in 2 Versionen abgebildet. Beide Modelle haben den gewölbten Deckel. Das ältere Exemplar, wahrscheinlich vor 1900, hat die Seriennummer 967 und ist mit der Firmen- und Modellbezeichnung in geschwungenen Schrift gekennzeichnet; das spätere Exemplar mit der Seriennummer 11030 über dem Linsenlogo dürfte von 1905/06 stammen. Dessen Kennzeichnung mit Ziffern in englischer Schreibweise - d.h. "1" ohne Häkchen oben, wie ein großes "I" - könnte von einer Produktion bei Zeiss London herrühren.

This monocular "Jagdglas" model 7½x25 (order word "Simpseven") is depicted here in two versions, Boith versions have got the sloped top body cover. The older model, before 1900, has the serial number 967 and is marked with the firm name and mdoel data in handscript; the later specimen with the serial number 11030 inscribed over the lens logo must date from 1905/06. Its markings with English numbers, i.e. a "1" without a diagonal line at its top end, like a capital "I", might be caused, because it was made by Zeiss London.

Das Glas ist aus schwarz lackiertem Messing mit dunkelbrauner Lederummantelung und Bakelitaugenmuschel. Der Dioptrienausgleich geht von plus bis minus 5, die Skala läuft vollständig um das Okularteil. Das 967-Modell hat eine angeschraubte Trageöse.

As others, this monocular has a black lacquered brass body and a dark brown leather covering. The eyecup is made of Bakelite. The dioptre adjustment ranges from plus to minus 5, the dioptre scale runs all the way around the eye-piece. The 967 model has got a metal strip with lug screwed to its body.

Das 7½x25 Monokular ist ca. 12 bis 12,5cm lang und hat ein Sehfeld von 95m. Mit Trageriemen wiegt es 344g. Das Gehäuse des älteren Exemplars ist oben 5,5x5,5cm und unten 6x6cm breit; die Objektivfassung misst 3cm im Durchmesser – sie steht kaum aus dem Deckel hervor, dafür liegt die Objektivlinse aber weit zurück, so dass ein Blendschutz erreicht wird (s. Foto 6).

The 7½x25 monocular is ca. 12 to 12,5cm long and has a f.o.v. of 95m. It weighs 344g including the leather strap. The body of the older model is 5.5x5.5cm at the top, and 6x6cm at the bottom; the objective frame is 3cm in diameter – it protrudes only a little, while the objective lens itself is recessed quite far, forming a ray shade in this way (s. pic. 6).

Am unteren Deckel sind folgende Gravierungen: die Initialien "H M" für den Besitzer (möglicherweise ein Offizier) sowie die Londoner Adresse des Optikvertreibers "Dixey & Son, 3 New Bond St." (Anm.: n. Internetquellen soll dieser Optiker 1862 aufgehört haben, das Geschäft muss aber weitergeführt worden sein).

The bottom cover is marked as follows: initials "H M" for the owner, probably an officer, and the London address "Dixey & Son, 3 New Bond St.", the optical instruments distributor )comm.: internet sources say this optician ceased business in 1862, but the name must have been continued till later)..
