Carl Zeiss Jena 4x

This Carl Zeiss Jena 4x20 monocular is only marked "4x" below the logo, thus hinting at a production time before or during WWI. Also serial number 734053 dates at year 1916 for production. There are some specialities of this version. number "62" is marked on the top cover plate, the body has a anthracite rough textured surface, all parts have some sealing grease, and there is an additonally fitted larger objective ring with an inner thread. All these feature hint at a military use. With the objective thread (three seprate parts and blank interspaces) the 4x20 could probably be mounted onto another device like a signaling apparatus or a gun for targeting.
The eyecup os made of Bakelite. The left-hand sided eyepiece comes with the usual +/-5 dioptre adjustment. The brass covers are painted black. There is no strap lug. The objective frame is marked with a plus sign at its side (an adjustment sign or a later denotation of the cold-restant grease?). There also is number 239284 sta,ped into the rim of the lower cover plate.

The eyecup is 31mm in diameter, the ocular 16mm, the thick objective ring 31mm, too. The 39mm tall housing measures 36x36mm at its top and 41x41mm at its bottom. Overall length is 70-75mm, overal lweight is 125g.
