Carl Zeiss 12x40 Telonarmo
| Das Carl Zeiss 12x40 Monokular wurde ca. zwischen 1920 und 1931 gebaut. Einige bekannte Seriennummer sind 1265645 aus einer 150er Charge diverser Monokulare, 1286583 und 1286596 aus einer 50er Charge alle von 1925). Es zeigt die Zeiss typische Bauweise, hat eine Hartgummiummantelung und eine Ledertasche wie sie vor 1945 üblich war. Die Augenmuschel hat eine geschwungene Form, die sich zum Fokussierungsring hin verjüngt. Der Fokussierungsring ist kreuz-geriffelt (x). Die Dioptrienskala geht rundherum um das linksseitige Okular und ist bei +5 und -5 gekennzeichnet. Der obere Deckel ist einfach, der untere dreifach verschraubt, beide sind schwarz lackiert und aus Messing. | The Carl Zeiss 12x40 was produced between 1920 and 1931. Some known serial numbers are 1265645 from a batch of 150 different monoculars, 1286583 and 1286596 from a batch of 50 12x40s, all made in 1925). It has the Zeiss type construction, is covered with hard rubber, and comes with a leather case, common for pre-war glasses. The eyecup has a bended shape, decreasign towards the focusing ring. The focusing ring has a cross-knurling (x). The dioptre scale on the left-hand sided ocular runs all around it and is marked at +5 and -5. The top cover plate has one, the bottom cover plate three round headed screws. Both covers are made of brass and painted black. |
| Das 12x40 ist 147 bis 152mm lang, das Gehäuse oben 60x60mm und unten 65x65mm breit. Das Okular ist 28mm, die Augenmuschel 33mm und der Objektivtubus 50mm im Durchmesser. Das Telenarmo wiegt 453g. Nach Angabe des Verkäufers ist das mir vorliegende Monokular mit Seriennummer 1286596 zuvor im Besitz von "Sir Hector Seymour Peter Monro, Baron Monro of Langholm" (1922 - 2006) gewesen. |
The 12x40 measures 147mm to 152mm in length. Its body is 60x60mm wide at its top and 65x65mm wide at its bottom. The ocular has a 28mm, the eyecup a 33mm, and the objective tube a 50mm diameter. According to the seller the monocular with serial number 1286596 I have was owned before by "Sir Hector Seymour Peter Monro, Baron Monro of Langholm" (1922 - 2006). |
| Ein späteres 12x40 von 1928 (Charge mit 300 verschiedenen Monokularen) hat die Seriennummer 1416850, gerade, glatte Augenmuschel, eine vertikale Riffelung des Fokussieungsrings und eine umlaufende Dioptirenskala bis +/-15, gekennzeichnet bei 0, 5 und 10. Zwei bekannten 12x40 Monokulare mit Serinnummer 469604 und 469605 fallen aus Reihe der Nachkriegsproduktion heraus und könnten ca. 1915 als monokulare Variante des militärischen D.F. 12x40 gebaut worden sein. Sie haben Aluminiumdeckel, sind ansonsten gleich den o. g. 1925er Modellen. Ein Modell ist mit "Germany" beschriftet, was auf ein exportiertes Modell hindeutet. |
A later 12x40 from 1928 (batch of 300 differnt monoculars) has the serial number 1416850, straight, flat eyecups, a vertical knurling of the focusing ring, and a full dioptre from + to -15, being marked at 0, 5 and 10. Two known 12x40 monoculars with serial numbers 469604 and 469605 do not fit in the post-war series. They may date from c. 1915 and were made probably as a kind of monocular variant of the military D.F. 12x40. They come with aluminium cover plates but have the same design as the 1925s models described above. One specimen is inscribed with "Germany" which hints to model meant for export. |
