Carl Zeiss Winkelfernrohr (ziviler Prototyp?)

Carl Zeiss Periscope (civilian prototype?)

The perisocpe here is manually engraved "Carl Zeiss 12x" on the housing cover plate . It has the same dimensions etc. like the CZ 10x26 periscope , but it has no handle and is lacquered black and the tube covered with leather. So the periscope weighs only 603g and is 370mm long. Moreover, the optical data is the same like the 10x26 periscope according to my own mesurings. As there are no traces of a sawn off or detached handle (like on the regular 10x26 periscope) as well as there is no remainiong trace of a original inscription next to the eyepiece, we can assume that this is either a prototype of the 10x26 or a refurbished model from the Zeiss workshop. Because the stated power is different to its true magnification, we can also assume that at least the engraving was made b a later owner himself.
