Cyclops 8x

Dieses flache Monokular Modell "Cyclops 8x" stammt aus der Mailänder Fa. "La Filtoecnica" des Ingenieurs Salmoiraghi, einem Mitarbeiter von I. Porro. Auf dem Blechschild des 8x20 Monokulars findet sich außerdem die Beschriftung "Monocolo brevettato", was für "patentierte Monokular" steht. Eine genaue Datierung ist nicht möglich, die Verwendung der Aluminiumhalterung für die Prismen (s. Foto) lässt aber eine Herstellung erst ab Anfang des 20. Jh. vermuten, als dessen Gebrauch üblicher und billiger wurde. Es wird in einem Filotecnica-Katalog aufgeführt und auch beschrieben, dass es ein Kopie des ersten "Lunette Napoléon III" von I. Porro sein soll. Leider ist der Katalog ohne Herausgabedatum, die große Anzahl und die Bauart der anderen angebotenen Prismengläser, weist allerdings eher auf ein Zei in den 1930er hin (dies wäre ggf. das 75. Jubiläum von Porros "Lunette Napoléon III" (1855-1930).
Das "Cyclops" verwendet ein Porro II-Prismensystem mit einer Okularfokussierung (s. Fotos des geöffneten Monokulars). Das Sehfeld beträgt 98m. Es wiegt 250g. Die Form findet sich auch bei dam späteren "Minox T8" wieder.		 This flat sized monocular model "Cyclops 8x" was made by "La Filotecnica" in Milano, an optical instrument factory run by Porro's collaborator Salmoiraghi. There are also the words "Monocolo brevettato" on the brass label, which means "patented monocular". A precise dating is not possible. But the use of an aluminium body hints to a production after 1900, when aluminium became more common and affordable. It is listed in a Filotecnica catalogue, and an explanation says that it is a copy of the early "Lunette Napoléon III" by I. Porro. Unfortunately the catalogue is undated, but the larger range of prism binoculars offered, and their design of the other bincoulars offered rather hints to a productio ndat in the 1930s (this would be the 75th anniversary of the Porro's "Lunette Napoléon III" (1855-1930).
The "Cyclops" has a porro II prism system with a focussing eye-piece (s. pics of the opened monocular). The field of view is 98m, the monocular weighs 250g. The design re-appears again with the later "Minox T8".
