Busch Prisma Monocle "Terlux" 9x36

Aus der "Terlux" Modellreihe mit der für das Modell typischen Gehäuseform ist hier ein 9x36 Prisma-Monocle. Die Vergrößerung ist mit "9x" an der Bakelitaugenmuschel gekennzeichnet, während der Gehäusedeckel mit "BUSCH PRISMA-MONOCLE 'TERLUX'" beschriftet ist. Das Gehäuse besteht aus drei belederten Teilen: das obere hat einen nierenförmigen Querschnitt und beinhaltet die Prismen, der mittlere ergibt den typischen schrägen Verlauf in zwei Richtungen durch eine Art zweier ineinander gesetzter Kegelstümpfe, der untere Teil ist rund und fasst die Objektivlinse. Alle Teile sind durch Aluminiumringe getrennt; am Mittelteil ist eine Trageöse angeschraubt. Die 3/3 Augenmuschel hat an der unteren abgechrägten Seite eine Dioptrienskala mit Stricheinteilung von + bis - 4 und Beschriftungen "+ 0 -".

Here is a 9x36 Prisma-Monocle from the "Terlux" series with its typical shape. Magnification is marked "9x" at the Bakelite eye-piece, whereas the top cover plate is marked "BUSCH PRISMA-MONOCLE 'TERLUX'". The housing consists of three leather covered parts. The top part has a kidney shaped layout and holds the prisms. The middle part typical of Terlux models shows the double inclined construction looking like two frustums set into each other. The lower part is round and holds the objective lens. All housing parts are separated by aluminium rings. There is a screwed on short strap lug at the middle part. The 3/3 eyecup has a dioptre scale ranging from + to - 4 at its sloping bottom end. The dioptre division is only inscribed with "+, -" and "0".

Das Monokular wiegt 299g. Es ist 16,7 bis 17,8cm lang und der obere Deckel ist ca. 51x40mm breit, der Objektivtubus 49mm im Durchmesser und das schräge Gehäuse in der Mitte 43x48mm breit. Die Augenmuschel ist 34,5mm, der Drehring 29mm und der Okulartubus 21mm im Durchmsser. Das Terlux hat einen passenden Lederköcher. Aufgrund der Merkmale des Glases (unvergütete Optik, Beschriftung, Belederung, Augenmuschel) lässt sich das Monokular auf Anfang des 20. Jh. datieren.

The monocular weighs 299g. It is 16.7-17.8 cm long. The top cover plate measures 51x40mm, the objective tube is 49mm in diameter. The centre dimensions of the middle housing are 43x48mm. The eyecup is 34.5mm, the knurled part 29mm, and the ocular tube 21mm in diameter. The Terlux comes with a fitting leather case. All characteristics (uncoated optics, markings, leathering, eyecup) let us date the monocular being produced at the beginning of the 20th century.

Die spätere Modellvariante - um den 1. Weltkrieg herum gebaut - hat eine eingegossener Trageriemenöse, das Busch Rathenow Logo am oberen Deckel sowie die Beschriftung "Busch Terlux 9x" und nur noch eine 1/3 Augenmuschel. Es wiegt 327g. Der passende Lederköcher weist "L.W.M. Jenkins, Major R.A.S.C" als Besitzer aus (RASC = Royal Army Service Corps).

The later model variant - about WWI - comes with a cast-in strap lug, a 1/3 eyecup, and is marked with the Busch Rathenow logo and "Busch Terlux 9x". Wieght is 327g. The matching leather case is marked with the owner's name "L.W.M. Jenkins, Major R.A.S.C" (RASC = Royal Army Service Corps).
