Barr & Stroud Telescope Sighting No. 1 (Mark II)

Das vorliegende schwere Messing-Militärfernrohr von Barr & Stroud Glasgow stammt laut Gravur von 1903, zu einer Zeit, als Barr & Stroud schon Entfernugnsmesser, aber keine Prismenferngläser, produzierte. Weiterhin ist das Fernrohr mittig mit "TEL SIGHTING No1 (MARK II) ... No 586" und darunter dem "broad arrow" beschriftet. Das Hauptrohr hat zwei dickere blanke Bereiche, wo das Fernrohr auf dem Geschütz oder eienr Halterung montiert wurde. Das 45 mm Objektiv hat einen geriffelten Überwurfring, am 20 mm langen Objektivendtubus ließ sich wahrscheinlich noch ein Regenrohr befestigen. Das 14 cm lange Okularende oder -rohr beginnt mit einem sich verjüngenden Dioptrienringteil, das umlaufend von 0 - 7 beschriftet ist und am geraden Stück zum Hauptrohr einen Pfeil als Referenzmarkierung hat. Es gibt einen kreuz-geriffelten Fokussierungsteil und eine 22 mm Okularlinse, an deren Fassung wiederum ein geriffelter Augenmuschelring aufgeschraubt ist. Die originale Leder- oder Gummiaugenmuschel fehlt. Die Messingteile sind schwarz lackiert. Das Fernrohr hat ein terristrisches Linsensystem und erreicht eine 3fache Vergrößerung.

The shown heavy military brass telescope by Barr & Stroud Glasgow dates from 1903 according to its engraving, a period when Barr & Stroud already made rangefinders but no prism binoculars. Furthermore, in the centre this telescope is inscribed "TEL SIGHTING No1 (MARK II) ... No 586" with a "broad arrow" below. The main tube has two thicker olished attachment parts by which the sight was mounted to a gun or bracket. The 45 mm objective has a knurled retainer ring; on its 20 mm long objective end tube a rain guard tube was probably attached. The 14 cm long eyepiece end or tube starts with an decreasing dioptre ring which is marked with 0 - 7 around the ring beschriftet ist. The straigt small part next to the main tube has an reference arrow. There is a cross knurled focusing ring and a 22 mm ocular lens. A knurled ring is again scred onto the eyepeice end. The original leather or rubber eye cup is missing. The bras parts are painted black. The telescope has a terrestrial lens system and comes with a 3 times magnification.

The Telescope Sighting is 490 mm long, the middle tube measures 51 mm, the mounting parts 57 mm, the obejctive frame 50 mm and the eyepeice 42 mm in diameter. The focusing ring is 48 mm, the knurled eyecup ring 60 mm and he knurled objective reatiner ring is 63 mm in diameter. The telescopes weighs 2892 g.
