Barr & Stroud CF. 28A

Das B&S CF 28A ist ein Monokular mit Porro II Prismensystem. Es erreicht eine 7fache Vergrößerung und hat eine 42mm Objektivlinse. Das Sehfeld ist ca, 127m/1000m oder 7°18'. Die auf der Oberseite der Prismendose eingravierte Patentnummer 572537 weist darauf hin, dass zwischen die Prismenelemente "eine dünne Schicht eines durchsichtigen flexiblen Materials" angebracht wurde (s. W.Reid Buch "We're certainly ....", S. 168). Ebenso ist die Bildfeldlinse am Prisma anzementiert. Die seitlich am Bakelit-Gehäuse (58mm Durchmesser) eingestempelte Seriennummer 96805 weist auf ein Herstellungsdatum zwischen 1948 und 1950 hin. Weitere Exemplare haben die Seriennummern 102659 und 102778 (1951/52). Auch die blaue Linsenvergütung spricht für ein Nachkriegsmodell.

The B&S CF 28A is a porro II prism monocular with 7 times magnification and a 42mm objective lens. Its field of view is 127yds/1000ft. or 7°18'. The patent number 572537 engraved at the top of the prism box tells us that there is "a thin sheet of a transparent flexible material" between the prism elements (see infoprmation in W.Reid's book "We're certainly ....", p. 168). Also the field lens is cemented to the prism. The serial number 96805 stamped into the side of the Bakelite prism box (58mm in diameter) hints at a production date between 1948 and 1950, being a post-war model which is verified through the blue coating. Other models have serial numbers 102659 and 102778 (about 1950/51).

Das rechtseitige 29mm Okular hat einen Dioptrienausgleich von +/-5 mit einer geriffelten Kunststoff-Augenmuschel. Die 58,5mm breite Prismendose ist auf einem unterem Metallboden aufgeschraubt und mit 3 Schräubchen seitlich fixiert. Dieser Bodendeckel hat eine vorstehenden Trageriemenschlitz und geht direkt in den Objektivtubus über. Dieser 10cm lange und konische Tubus hat eine strukturierte Rauhlackummantelung und misst am Ansatz 33,5mm und am Ende 50mm. Als Abschluss dient eine 59mm Bakelitobjektivfassung. Hinter dem Tubusansatz ist innen noch eine Gesichtsfeldblende angebracht. Das Monokular wiegt 354g und hat einen passenden Lederköcher.

The right-hand side 29mm ocular has a dioptre adjustment of +/-5 with a knurled plastic eye-cup. The 58.5mm prism box is screwed onto a metal ground plate and fixed by three screws from the side. This plate has a cast in protruding strap lug, and it goes over directly into the objective tube. The latter is covered with a textured textured paint, and is 10cm in length having a conical shape. The tube starts with a diameter of 33.5mm – inside there is a iris diaphragm – and increases to 50mm at its end. The final part is a 59mm round objective frame made of Bakelite. The monocular weighs 354g and comes with a leather case.
