Bausch & Lomb Zeiss Field-Glass Power 8

Hier ist ein monokularer Feldstecher mit 8facher Vergrößerung und einem nach innen versetzten 20er Objektiv als Lizenzfertigung der Zeiss-Feldstecher (Anfang 1900).Auch die Lederköcher sind gleich den damaligen Zeiss-Köchern (der DRuckknopf ist mit Bausch & Lomb" beschriftet). Es handelt sich also um ein 8x20 Modell mit geradem Deckel. Das Monokular ist aus schwarz lackierten dreifach verschraubten Aluminiumdeckeln und -gehäuse mit einer Lederummantelung. Die Trageriemenöse ist an einem angeschraubten Messing-Metallstreifen, welcher ca. 1/3 so lang wie das Gehäuse ist. Die 2/3 Augenmuschel ist aus braunem Bakelit, das linksseitige Okular mit umfaufender Dioptrienskala aus Messing. Der obere Deckel ist in Frakturschrift mit "Zeiss Field-Glass" und "Bausch & Lomb Optical Co." sowie in lateinischer Schrift zwischen den Frakutchriftzeielen mit "POWER - 8." und darunter mit "Rochester, N.Y. Chicago" beschriftet. Bei einem etwas späterem Exemplar folgt den ersten zwei in Fraktur ravierten Zeilen "Rochester N.Y. - POWER - 8". Darunter ist das Logo der "Triple Alliance" mit den Initialien "B-L", "Z" und "S" - daher stammt das zweite Exemplar von ca. 1908/09. Seriennummern sind nicht vorhanden.

Here is a monocular field-glass with 8 times magnification and a recessed 20mm objective lens. It is a licenced production of an 8x20 Zeiss field-glass with a straight top cover (beg. of 1900). Moreover, the leahter cases are the like the Zeiss ones ( the push button is marked with the B&L name). The monocular is made of black painted aluminium covers with three screws and an aluminium body with a leather covering. The screwed-on strap lug is a brass metal strip which is a third of the housing's length. The 2/3 eyecup is made of brown Bakelite, the left-hand sided ocular has a dioptre scale and is made of brass. The top cover is marked "Zeiss Field-Glass" und "Bausch & Lomb Optical Co." in Gothic script as well as "Rochester, N.Y." inbetween the Gothic lines, followed by "POWER - 8." in Latin. Another somewhat later specimen bears the "Triple Alliance" logo with the initials "B-L", "Z" and "S" below these inscriptions. So, the latter model must date from about 1908/09. There are no serial numbers.

Das Monokular wiegt 140g, ist 97-103mm lang und oben am Gehäuse 40x40mm bzw. unten 45x45mm breit. Das Okular hat einen Durchmesser von 18mm, der Fokussierungsring von 22mm und die Augenmuschel von 30mm. Die Objektivfassung ist 23,5mm im Durchmesser.

The monocular weighs 140g, is 97-103mm long and measures 40x40mm at the top of the housing and 45x45mm at the bottom of the housing. The ocular is 18mm, the focusing part 22mm, and the eyecup 30mm in diameter. The objective frame diameter is 23.5mm.

Ein anderes 8x20 Modell ohne Trageriemenöse ist lediglich mit "8 POWER - Bausch & Lomb - Rochester N.Y." beschriftet. Zusätzlich gibt es eingeritze Gravuren: oben "C.E.S." und unten "SAMPSON CRESTON IOWA", offensichtlich der Besitzername und -adresse.

Another 8x20 model without strap lug is only marked with "8 POWER - Bausch & Lomb - Rochester N.Y.". Additionally there are som scratched engravings: top cover "C.E.S." and bottom cover "SAMPSON CRESTON IOWA", obviously the owner's name and address.
