Monocular X 6x24

Dieses lederummantelte Messingmonokular in der Zeiss-Bauweise könnte möglicherweise von Ross London gefertigt worden sein. Da es sich hier um ein 2/3-Okularstück handelt, d.h. Augenmuschel und Drehring sind aus Bakelit, die Dioptrienskala auf einem Messingring, wird es um 1900 produziert worden sein. Dafür spricht auch, dass die Deckelränder gerade sind und innen mit einem kleinen Filzstreifen die Prismen fest halten. Die Deckel sind schwarz lackiert und dreifach verschraubt. Über der Lederummantelung ist ein Metallstreifen geschraubt; ob dieser der Rest eine Trageösenlippe war oder wohlmöglich nur die Verschraubungslöcher einer ehmaligen Fernglasbrücke (dann wäre es ein Fernglas ohne stereoskopischen Effekt gewesen) bleibt offen. Ein weitere Besonderheit ist ein kleiner sich verjüngender Metallstreifen fest am Objektivtubus (s. Detailfoto).

This leather covered brass monocular following the Zeiss type could be mae by Ross London. As it has a 2/3 ocualr piece, i.e. the eyecup and the knurled ring are made in one piece of ebonite and the dioptre scakle being a metal ring, it probably was made around 1900. Another argument for this is that the cover plate rims are straight and the covers hold the prisms inside with a felt piece. The cover plates have three screws and are painted black. There is a screwed on metal strip at the leather covering. Whether this originates from a strap lug metal piece or just covers the screw holes of a former bridge remains uncertain (the binocular then must have been one without stereoscopic effect). Another feature is a small metal band with decreasing width at the objective tube (s. detail photo).

Die tatsächlichen Werte des Glases sind 6fache Vergrößerung und eine 18mm Objektivlinse, also 6x18. Das Aluminiumgehäuse ist 44x44mm breit und 52,5mm hoch. Der Okulartubus ist 20mm, das 2/3 Okularstück 25mm im Durchmesser, der Objektivtubus 22mm. Die Gesamtlänge liegt zwischne 100 und 110mm. Das Monokular wiegt 172g.

The top coer plate is marked with a broad arrow and below number 54. moreover there are some manually scratchings saying "X 6 x 24", "7 6°", below "2°". The real specifications of the monocular are a 6 times magnification and a 18mm objective lens, so it is a 6x18 glass. The aluminium body measures 44x44mm and is 52.5mm tall. The ocular tube is 20mm in diameter, the 2/3-eye-piece 25mm, and the objecive tube 22mm. The overall length is between 100 and 110mm. The monocular weighs 172g.
