Having a 8x56 specification this Voigtländer monocular is highly light transmitting regarding that time (1920s) due to its high aperture. This fact is also emphasized on the catalogue page (see below). The monocular is made of brass with a ebonite covering on the housing. The other parts icluding the conical objective tube are lacquered black. The cover paltes are kidney-shaped and have four screws. The top cover is inscirbed with the Voigtländer script as well as marked "Braunschweig" (Brunswick), followed by the lion logo and "8x56 No 21005". The engraving is partly still filled with silver solder. The left-hand sided eyepiece has a dioptre scale ranging from + to - 6 and facing digaonally downwards. At the lower end of the eyepiece there is a fixed dioptre scale with the same devision lines. A locking ring is attached between these two scales. It can be used to for a quick adjustment of one's individual dioptre. The focusig part comes with a crosswise diagonal knurling. The eyecup is missing. The objective lens is retracted about 10mm into the objective tube which is grooved inside, both meant to reduce reflections and glare.

The Voigtländer 8x56, which was only issued as a monocular, weighs 800g without the eyecup (cf. catalogue data with eyecup). It is 195-205mm lang. The 73mm long housing measures 57x79mm at its top and 63x88mm at its bottom. The objective tube increases from 49mm to 61mm in diameter. The eyepiece is 33mm, the focusing part 38mm, the adjustment ring 40mm in diameter.
