x5 Spy Prismatic Monocular

This small monocular in the size of a lighter (58x46x24mm without lens frames) probably is the forerunner of the 5x12.5 Box-Shaped Monocular, because it is identical in shape, prism construction and optical specifications. The covers are painted black, the objective one is marked with "x5 Spy Prismatic" within a porro 1 prism logo. Moreover, it is also inscribed "FOCUS" at the round end over the tiny foucsing wheel. The English words hint at a British production - probably by Watts & Son, as their logo was a 90°-prism. Furhtermore the way of stating the magnification hints at a date before 1920.

The 12.5mm objective lens has a 15.25mm wide and 5mm tall frame. The funnel shaped 17.5mm eyecup is made of black painted brass and screw onto the ocualr thus holding the top cover plate.
The brass sheet housing has afake leather covering (maybe not original one). Inside there is a mounting rack with two tiny porro 1 prisms being glued and clamped to an aluminium plate each. By turning the focusing wheel a threaded rod moves one plate to and fro(s. 5x12,5 Schachtelmonokulars).
The monocular weighs 81g.
