Kalimar Super Zoom Scope 2.5x-12x36

More a mono-objective than a mono-ocular this Kalimar Super Scope (K7012) with a 2.5 to 12 times magnification has two oculars but only one objective, from which the image is divided or doubled by some prism into each of the oculars. The code "J-B 2" marked on the left-hand sided objective cover plate denotes the "Kalimar" as being made by "Katsuma Kogaku Kikai Co. Ltd."; there also is a "J-E 46" code. The "PASSED" label by the Japan Telescope Inspection Institute is present, too.
The "Super scope" has a battery powered motor zoom that can be adjusted with two buttons a the top of the housing. A red button marked "2½" lowers,a green button marked "12" increases the magnification gradually. There is a knob wheel at the right ocular cover plate to change the motor's speed for slow (= S) or fast (= F) zooming.
The motor is supplied by four 1.5V batteries (AA). the battery compartment is in the left housing under the cover at the objective end. It is secured with a milled screw. You can test the battery power by pressing a tiny red button on the left ocular cover – when the red light next to it flashes charging is okay.
Marked at the ocular end of the bridge is a interpupillary distance scale as well as a logo consisting of a globe with grids and a italic "K"; further it says "PATENTED". The left top cover is marked "Kalimar K 7012", der rechte mit "2½ ~ 12x3 FIELD 2°45' 12 iF". So field of view is 2°46' at 12x magnification. The letter "iF" stand for individual focusing, i.e. both oculars have a dioptre adjustment. The scales range from +2 to -4. The primary focusing is done at the objective tube by turning it. A scale there gives distance marks in meter (white 10 - ∞) and feet (green 30 - ∞).
The objective frame is more or less the same as a camera telephoto-lens. A cogwheel at the rim of opening in the housing where the objective goes in moves the lens system for zooming.. The objective end has a 51mm filter thread. The rim is marked "Kalimar Super Zoom Scope No. 10559".
The houzsing and the objective tube have a pimpled rubber covering. The ocualrs and the objective also have those balck and silvery parts typical of Japanes optic products.

1370g is quite heavy for amonocular. Apart form carrying it with the attaached strap, the Kalimar comes with a leather carrying case.
The body measures 140x60x85mm, the metal oculars vary between 24-28mm on height and have a 27mm diameter at theri focusing parts. The 88mm long objective tube is 54-58mm in diameter.
