Hensoldt Pentaprismen Monocle 12x26 "Duodecies"

Here is a rare Hensoldt monocular with a penta prism. It is either a model from the 1899 series or the 1901 series, having a 12 times magnification and a 26mm objective. The model name was "Duodecies". This copy was made or distributed in licence by some William Binder, probably an US optician, as far as one can judge by the inscription at the top cover "Hensoldt Patent 12x William Binder".
The monocular has black lacquered oval aluminium covers, the top one being 56x33mm and fixed by 1 screw at each side (i.e. cross wise), the bottom cover being 60x40mm and fixed by 1 screw at each position where the straight side runs over to the rounded edge. The objective lens is mounted in a 34mm brass frame and retracts about 17mm into the inside thus building a ray-shade.

The brass eyepiece measures 17mm, the knurled focusing ring 24mm, and the brown Bakelite eyecup 30mm in diameter. The white painted dioptre scale runs around the whole eyepiece and ranges from + to - 5. The black leather covered aluminium housing is 76mm long and 30.5mm x 54mm wide at its top, and 37mm x 57mm wide at its bottom. A metal strip with its strap lug is attached by three screws at the (lower) flat side of the housing.
Because of the cover label and the position of the strap lug this would be the right-hand side part of a binocular version with a left-hand sided eyepiece. The "Monocle" weighs 212g, and has an overall length of 115-120mm.

Unscrewing the bottom cover, you can pull out the whole prism mounting system with it. There is a conical tube made of aluminium attached to the bottom plate. At its smaller end is a prism mounting rack fixed by two screws. This holds the penta prism, again fixed and adjusted by two screws. The objective frame can be unscrewed and is fixed with a tiny screw at the rim of the cover plate.
Looking inside the housing there is a metal strip functioning as a counter part to the metal strip with its strap lug outside. Moreover there are six pre-bored holes at one narrow side (see last photo), which would serve to fix the bridge of a binocular version.
