Hensoldt 12×26 Penta-Monocle

Das 12x26 Penta-Monocle mit rudner Schulter gehört zur 5. Modellreihe zwischen 1903 und 1904. Die Beschriftungsplatte an der Seite ist mit "Hensoldt Wetzlar D.R.P. Vergr=12×" gekennzeichnet. Wie bei den anderen Modellen lässt sich der Überwurfring am Objektivende abschrauben und so der Prismenstuhl nach Lösen zweier Schräubchen entnehmen. Das linksseitige Okular hat eine 2/3 Hartgummiaugenmuschel und eine komplett umlaufende Dioptrienskala mit Markierungen bei Null und plus/minus Fünf. Die Trageriemenösen sind mit drei Schrauben angeschraubt, jweiels an eienr anderen breiten Gehäusewand. Die beiden hier gezeigten Modelle weisen leichte Bauunterschiede auf. Das vermutlich frühere Exemplar ist aus Messingteilen außer der Trageriemenöse, dem Prismenstuhl und ggf. dem Gehäuse, welche aus Aluminium sind. Das andere Exemplar ist aus Aluminium außer dem Okularstück, der Objektivfassung und dessen Überwurfring. Die Gehäuse sind mit aufgespritztem Lack bzw. Emaille ummantelt. Beim früheren Exemplar ist die obere Seite nicht so stark abgerundet und wirkt eher gerade, beim zweiten Modell ist die "runde Schulter" stärker ausgebildet. Ebenso verläuft der Bogen vom Objektivende zur Auswölbung an der Beschriftungsplatte kürzer als bei der 2. Variante, so dass die 1. Beschriftungsplatte aus Messing mit 52mm um 2mm länger als die Aluminiumplatte des 2. Exemplars ist. Außerdem ist sie nur 1 mm gegenüber 2,7mm dick. Beim 1. Modell ist die Objektivlinse um 15mm nach innen in die 21mm lange Fassung versetzt, beim 2. Modell um 13,8 mm in eine 18,3mm lange Fassung. Die Riffelung in der Fassung zur Minderung von Streulicht ist beim ersten kürzer gefolgt von einem lägneren glatten Teil als beim zweiten Exemplar mit einem hingegen etwas kürzerem glatten Teil. Die Gehäuseform ist im gewissen Maße ein Übergang von einer vorehr geraden zu einer stärker gerundeten Oberseite.

The 12x26 Penta-Monocle with rounded shoulder belongs to the 5th model series, produced between 1903 and 1904. The inscription plate on the side is marked "Hensoldt Wetzlar D.R.P. Vergr=12×". As with the other models, the retaining ring at the objective lens end can be unscrewed, allowing the prism assembly to be removed after loosening two small screws. The left-hand eyepiece has a 2/3 Ebonite eyecup and a fully circumferential diopter scale with markings at zero and plus/minus five. The carrying strap lugs are attached with three screws, on a different sides of each housing. The two models shown here exhibit slight construction differences. The presumably earlier example is made of brass parts, except for the carrying strap lug, the prism assembly, and possibly the housing, which are made of aluminium. The other example is made of aluminium, except for the eyepiece section, the objective lens mount, and its retaining ring. The housings are coated with sprayed-on lacquer or enamel. On the earlier model, the top is less rounded and appears rather straight, while on the second model, the "rounded shoulder" is more pronounced. Similarly, the curve from the lens end to the bulge on the inscription plate is shorter than on the second version, so that the first brass inscription plate, at 52 mm, is 2 mm longer than the aluminium plate of the second model. It is also only 1 mm thick compared to 2.7 mm. On the first model, the lens is retracted by 15 mm into the 21 mm long mount, while on the second model, it is only retracted 13.8 mm into an 18.3 mm long mount. The knurling in the mount, intended to reduce stray light, is shorter on the first model, followed by a longer smooth section, while on the second model, the smooth section is somewhat shorter. The housing shape represents, to some extent, a transition from a before straight to a more rounded top.

So ist auch der Überwrufring 47mm im Durchmesser, die Objektivlinsenfassung 34mm (35mm), die Okularhülse ist 18,7mm (19mm), der Fokussierungsteil 26mm und die Augenmuschel 35mm im Durchmesser.

The brass model weighs 246g, the aluminum model approximately 215g. It is 120-125mm (119-124mm) long, the housing is 34x52mm wide at the top and 47mm (46mm) in diameter at the bottom. The retaining ring is also 47mm in diameter, the objective lens mount is 34mm (35mm), the eyepiece tube is 18.7mm (19mm), the focusing part is 26mm, and the eyecup is 35mm in diameter.
