3x15 Fixfocus Monocular

Ob dieses kleine 3x15 Monokular zivilen oder militärischen Ursprungs ist, ist nicht leicht zu sagen. Die Lederummantelung und die Lackierung der Deckel sowie die Kunststoffaugenmuschel sprechen für eine zivile Optik, die halbrunde Grundform des Gehäuses plus einem Fixfokusokular ähnelt vielen Militärvisieren, und die massive Aluminiumbauweise mit hohem Gewicht von 154g bei nur 72mm Länge und 37x49mm Breite spricht eher für ein Visier eines militärischen Gerätes, wie sie von Goerz gebaut wurden (vgl. Firmenschrift 1911, S. 49 Zielfernrohr für Feldgeschütze + S. 60 Dreiecksrichtkreis ). Die Deckel werden mit 3 Stiften in Position gehalten und mittels Objektiv- und Okularfassung fixiert. Die Höhe und optischen Daten entsprechen ungefähr einem der frühen 3x15 Ferngläser von Goerz Berlin mit den zwei Stellrädern, wobei sich - wie gesagt - die Grundform des Gehäuses unterscheidet. Da auf dem 3x15 Monokular keinerlei Beschriftung vorhanden ist, ist eine genaue Bestimmung schwer zu geben.

It is hard to tell whether this small 3x15 monocular was made for civilian or military use. Its leather covering and black lacquering ot the cover plates as well as the plastic eyecup hint at a civilian optic, but the semi-circular ground section plus the fix focus ocular resembles various military sights. Moreover, the solid aluminium body with its rather high weight of 154g, being only 72mm long and 37x49mm wide is more suitable for military use than carrying around as a everyday monocular. The company's 1911 booklet shows an "aiming sight for field canons" (p. 49) and a sight for a traingle aiming circle (p. 60). The cover plates are positioned by means of three tiny pins and fastend through the screwed-on objective and ocular frames. Height and optical specification come close to the early 3x15 binocular models by Goerz Berlin - those with two adjusting wheels. Yet, the basic shape of the cover plates is different.. As there are no markings whatsoever on the monocular, it is difficutl to say what by which maker and what purpose for it was made.
