Fauth Stenometer

The Stenometer - another term for rangefinder - by Fauth & Co. in Washington from about 1905 aus Washington D.C. makes use of a refurbished Bausch & Lomb monocular with a dobule image micrometer attached to the objective side. The monouclar is an early B&L model in the slightly coinical design after a Zeiss licence. It has a screwed-on short strap lug. The optical specifications are c. 5x22. The obejctive end of the housing had a recess fitting the micrometer screw. The micrometer itself was made by Fauth and thus bears his company name as well as the serial number 2503.
Fauth was co-worker of Saegmueller whose company later made up the Triple Allinace with Bausch & Lomb And Zeiss.
The eyepiece gas a 2/3 eyecup made of hard rubber and a full dioptre scale marked at zero and +/-5. The micrometer has a fine adjustment wheel with a 0-60 division scale. It served to move one of the two semi-circular objective lenses. The Stenometer was meant to be used by land-surveillance and so were supplied with a matching belt case for an easy carrying.

The Stenometer weighs 486g. It is 125 to 130mm long.
