Hensoldt "Wacht" Dialyt Vergr=12x

This 12x26 monocular with its telegram ordering word "Monosport" dates from the first Dialyt model series by Hensoldt between 1905 - 1909 (start of Hensoldt's "Wacht" trademark period). It already has all charscteristics of the later and bigger Dialyts. The prism and the objective tubes are screwed together and have a leather covering each. The aluminium parts are lacquered black, just like the the brass eyepiece with its 2/3 eyecup. The dioptre scale is only marked with +, - and 0.
The rounded top cover is marked on its wider bottom rim. The engraving is "Hensoldt Wetzlar D.R.P. Vergr=12x" (s. animated picture, 3 single photos), opposed by the serial number 57012. Under the eyecup on the eyepeice the magnification "12x" was scratchend in manually. This was probably done to have a definite assignment of the assembled oculars to the correct model.

The 12x26 features a compact and light construction which resembles today's modern handheld monoculars with Schmidt-Pechan prisms. The glass only weighs 127g having a tube diameter of 31mm, an eyecup diameter of 30mm, and a 16mm eyepiece. Its length is 134-139mm depending on focusing.

The parts pictured below are from left to right: objective lens with frame, objective tube, prism rack with prisms (it goes into the prism housing and is fixed with a tiny screw at the bottom), a diaphragm (being screwed into the lower end of the ocular), the ocular tube with its lens system, a tube with the dioptre scale, a retainer ring to fix the latter tube to the eyepiece, and the 2/3 eyecup.
